With great solemnity, the opening of the new session of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden was celebrated this year as well, on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

The proceedings began with a festive service held at Storkyrkan Cathedral of the Lutheran Church in Stockholm.

This service forms an integral part of the official ceremony marking the beginning of the Swedish Parliament’s work and serves as the spiritual prelude to the 2025/26 Parliamentary Session.

On this occasion, Members of Parliament, distinguished Representatives of the Royal Court, and the entire Swedish Royal Family gather together in prayer, before the opening of Parliamentary business.

The Dean (Domprost) of Storkyrkan Cathedral, Rev. Jonas Eek, emphasized the importance of beginning Sweden’s public life with Christian reflection and prayer.

The keynote address of the day was delivered by the Lutheran Bishop of Stockholm, Andreas Holmberg. He began his speech with a moving reference to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew:

“Precisely at the spot where I now stand (the pulpit), only two weeks ago stood the highest Leader of the Orthodox Christian world, Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, the representative of 300 million Orthodox Christians.

Together with many other Church Leaders from around the globe, we celebrated the centenary of the Ecumenical Meeting for Peace, as we heard in the introduction.

The Patriarch stressed that true peace concerns both the inner transformation of each individual’s life and the transformation of society as a whole.

Even today, representatives of the worldwide Church are here to share with us the words of Holy Scripture about peace.

At the beginning of one of the most important texts in world literature, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus also speaks of peace and says: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers.’

Peace does not simply fall from heaven, nor does it appear on its own. It is created; it requires work. That is why our calling is to be peacemakers.

Honorable Members of Parliament, in this working year that now begins: create peace, work for peace! And may we all, together with you, be peacemakers! Blessed are the peacemakers.”

The service also formed part of the commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Stockholm Ecumenical Conference and the Ecumenical Year 2025 (Ekumeniska året 2025), themed: “A Time for God’s Peace.”

Scripture readings were offered by Ms. Maria Valorna from Ukraine (Isaiah 2:4), Ms. Boel Hössjer Sundman from the Lutheran Church of Sweden (Galatians 3:27–28), H.E. Cardinal Anders Arborelius (Psalm 85:11–14), and Rev. Rathinamn Mariyadoss from the Evangelical Church of South India (Mark 16:15).

The music for the service was provided by the Stockholm Cathedral Choir (Stockholms domkyrkokör), under the direction of musicologist Mr. Johan Hammarström, and the Royal Guard’s Dragoon Band (Livgardets dragonmusikkår), conducted by Maestro Mr. Joakim Unander, who performed sacred marches.

Among those present were His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, along with 2,000 distinguished figures from Sweden’s ecclesiastical and civic life.

This year’s service carried particular symbolism, as it was linked to the centenary of the 1925 Stockholm Ecumenical Conference—a landmark event in the modern Ecumenical Movement.

The service began shortly after noon (12:10 p.m.) and concluded in time for the formal procession to Parliament.

At 2:00 p.m., the Parliamentary session officially opened, with His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden declaring its commencement at the request of the Speaker of Parliament.

Following this, the Prime Minister of Sweden, H.E. Ulf Kristersson, presented the 2025 Government Policy Statement and his Address, focusing on combating organized crime, migration, the economy and welfare, education and family, climate and energy, foreign policy and security, as well as freedom, democracy, and culture.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech with the following message:
“Sweden has enormous potential. We have clean energy, world-class innovation, and a highly skilled workforce.

The goal of the government is to transform Sweden: from dangerous to safe, from stagnation to success, from political instability to long-term growth. A better tomorrow awaits us.”

The program also included musical performances, the singing of the Swedish National Anthem, and the official arrival and departure of dignitaries.

This ceremony continues to remind us of the strong bond between the Lutheran Church of Sweden and the Swedish State. It symbolizes the need for spiritual grounding before decisions are made that affect the Nation.

The tradition of collective prayer and unity before the opening of the parliamentary session, centuries old, offers spiritual guidance to the leadership of the Swedish State.

Πανοσιολογιώτατε,
Μουσικολογιώτατοι,
Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ Αδελφοί,
Αγαπημένα μας παιδιά,

Από την σημερινή Κυριακή, στην Εκκλησία μας, αρχίζει η ανάγνωση του Ευαγγελίου του Ευαγγελιστού Λουκά. Η πρώτη αυτή Κυριακή, μάς φέρνει μπροστά στο θαύμα της θαυμαστής αλιείας, με την οποία ο Χριστός κάλεσε τον Πέτρο, τον Ιάκωβο και τον Ιωάννη, να γίνουν μαθητές Του.

Ο Απόστολος Παύλος λέγει: «Ο Θεός, ο ειπών εκ σκότους φως λάμψει, ός έλαμψεν εν ταις καρδίαις ημών προς φωτισμόν της γνώσεως της δόξης του Θεού εν προσώπω Ιησού Χριστού».

Ο Χριστός είναι το φως που έλαμψε στις καρδιές μας κι αυτό το φως πρέπει να το μεταδώσουμε στους άλλους.

Ο Άγιος Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος εξηγεί: «Ουκ η δύναμις ημών εργάζεται τα θαύματα, αλλά η δύναμις του Θεού· ημείς τα σκεύη, εκείνος η χάρις».

Ο Πέτρος, μετά από μια ολόκληρη νύχτα άκαρπης προσπάθειας, ακούει τον Χριστό, να του λέγει: «Επανάγαγε εις το βάθος, και χαλάσατε τα δίκτυα υμών εις άγραν».

Με εμπιστοσύνη απαντά: «Επί δε τω ρήματί σου χαλάσω το δίκτυον».

Τότε, γίνεται το θαύμα. Πληθώρα ιχθύων, ώστε να γεμίσουν και τα δύο πλοία. Τότε, ο Πέτρος συντρίβεται: «Έξελθε απ’ εμού, Κύριε, ότι ανήρ αμαρτωλός ειμί».

Ο Χριστός, όμως, τον καλεί: «Από του νυν ανθρώπους έση ζωγρών».

Οι Απόστολοι, «αφέντες άπαντα, ηκολούθησαν αυτώ».

Ο Άγιος Κύριλλος Αλεξανδρείας σημειώνει: «Το πλοιάριον Πέτρου τύπος εστίν της Εκκλησίας· ο δε λόγος του Χριστού, ο εμβαλών πληθύν ιχθύων, σημαίνει την εις κόσμον άγραν των εθνών».

Ο Άγιος Γρηγόριος Νύσσης λέγει: «Η υπακοή τω θείω ρήματι γεννά την καρποφορίαν· ου τα δίχτυα, αλλά το πρόσταγμα του Κυρίου έπιασε τους ιχθύας».

Ο Άγιος Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος διδάσκει: «Μη θαυμάσης εάν άνθρωποι αγράμματοι τον κόσμον εκέρδησαν· ουκ η σοφία αυτών, αλλά η δύναμις του Σταυρού τα πάντα υπέταξεν».

Η σημερινή περικοπή αφορά κι εμάς. Πόσες φορές μοχθούμε όλη νύχτα στην ζωή μας και δεν πιάνουμε τίποτε; Προσπαθούμε με δικές μας δυνάμεις και απογοητευόμεθα.

Η φράση του Πέτρου είναι το κλειδί: «Επί δε τω ρήματί σου». Αν εμπιστευθούμε τον λόγο του Χριστού, τότε τα δίχτυα μας θα γεμίσουν, όχι με ψάρια, αλλά με καρπούς πίστης, αγάπης και ελπίδος.

Ο Χριστός μάς καλεί να γίνουμε και εμείς «αλιείς ανθρώπων», με την καλοσύνη, την μαρτυρία μας, την αγάπη μας, να φέρουμε κι άλλους στην Εκκλησία.

Η πρώτη Κυριακή του Λουκά μάς διδάσκει την εμπιστοσύνη στον λόγο του Θεού και την κλήση σε αποστολή.

Όπως οι Απόστολοι άφησαν τα πάντα, για να ακολουθήσουν τον Χριστό, έτσι και εμείς καλούμαστε ν᾽ αφήσουμε ό,τι μας κρατά δεμένους στην γη και να Τον ακολουθήσουμε.

Ο Άγιος Βασίλειος ο Μέγας τονίζει: «Η τελεία μαθητεία εστίν το αφέντες άπαντα ακολουθείν τω Διδασκάλω».

Ας έχουμε, λοιπόν, εμπιστοσύνη στον Κύριο, ας ρίχνουμε τα δίχτυα μας «επί τω ρήματί Του», και θα δούμε στην ζωή μας την δύναμή Του, να μας γεμίζει χαρά και σωτηρία. Αμήν!

Dearly Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today, on the First Sunday of Luke, the Church sets before us the Gospel reading of the miraculous catch of fish (Luke 5:1–11), where we see the calling of the Apostles, the foundation of discipleship, and the pattern of our own journey with Christ.

The Evangelist describes how the Lord approaches fishermen who had toiled all night and caught nothing. He commands Simon Peter, weary and discouraged, to cast the net once more, this time into the deep.

Against all human expectation, the nets are filled beyond measure.

Astonished, Peter falls before Christ, confessing, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

Yet the Lord replies with words of comfort and mission: “Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch people.”

St. Cyril of Alexandria notes that the empty nets of the night reveal the futility of human effort apart from Christ. All our our labor, if undertaken without the blessing and presence of the Lord, remains fruitless, but when the command of Christ is obeyed, abundance follows. Obedience, not skill or strength, is what fills the nets.

St. Ambrose teaches us that the “deep” into which Peter is told to cast the nets symbolizes the mysteries of divine wisdom.

To remain on the shore is to remain in the shallows of human reasoning; but to venture into the deep with Christ is to be led into the hidden things of God.

The humility of Peter is also central. St. John Chrysostom remarks that Peter’s confession of unworthiness is the proper response to a true encounter with God.

The Lord does not reject Peter for his humility; rather, He transforms him, making him a fisher of people. Here we learn that the recognition of our sins does not disqualify us from discipleship—it becomes the very condition through which God can work His grace.

Finally, we see in the calling of the Apostles the very mission of the Church. As the net gathers fish of every kind, so the preaching of the Gospel gathers people from all nations into the ark of salvation.

But notice also that the nets are strained and nearly breaking. The Fathers interpret this as a sign that the work of mission is difficult, demanding, and requires cooperation. The boats had to work together to bring in the catch, just as all members of the Church must labor together in unity.

Like the fishermen who left everything to follow the Lord, we too are invited to place Christ above all else, trusting that He will make our lives fruitful—not only for ourselves but for the salvation of others.

May the Lord grant us the courage of Peter, the obedience of the Apostles, and the joy of becoming fishers of people, so that His net, the Holy Church, may be filled unto the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen!

Το απόγευμα της Δευτέρας, 22ας Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας παρέθεσε ευχαριστήριο δείπνο στις εγκαταστάσεις της αιθούσης δεξιώσεων του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης, προς τιμήν των εθελοντών που συνεισέφεραν στην άψογη διοργάνωση της προσφάτου Πατριαρχικής Επισκέψεως της Α. Θ. Παναγιότητος, του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου.

Στο δείπνο συμμετείχαν άνω των πενήντα εθελοντών, εξαιρέσει είκοσι και πλέον, που για προσωπικούς λόγους και οικογενειακές υποχρεώσεις ο καθένας, δεν μπόρεσαν να παραστούν.

Ο Ποιμενάρχης, αφού ευχαρίστησε τους παρισταμένους και τους δι’ ευλόγους αιτίας απόντες, απηύθυνε την ακόλουθη προσλαλιά:

“Πανοσιολογιώτατε π. Βαρθολομαίε,
Αιδεσιμολογιώτατε π. Γεώργιε,
Αγαπητοί Εθελοντές και συνεργοί του έργου της τοπικής μας Εκκλησίας,

Με συγκίνηση και βαθύτατη ευγνωμοσύνη σας καλωσορίζω, και σας αποδίδω την οφειλομένη τιμή σε όλους σας, τους εκλεκτούς και ευλογημένους εθελοντές, οι οποίοι στηρίξατε με αυταπάρνηση και ανιδιοτέλεια την ιστορική Επίσκεψη του Παναγιωτάτου Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου στην Στοκχόλμη και την Ουψάλα, από 21 ης έως 25^ης Αυγούστου 2025.

Η άφιξη και η πατρική παρουσία του Παναγιωτάτου στον τόπο μας, υπήρξε ευλογία ουρανόσταλτος και δωρεά ανεκτίμητος, διότι με αυτήν, επιβεβαιώθηκε η ενότητά μας με τη Μητέρα Εκκλησία της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως.

Εάν το ιστορικό αυτό γεγονός  εστέφθη από ευταξία, υποδειγματική οργάνωση και με επιτυχία, τούτο οφείλεται στην προθυμία και φιλοπονία των καρδιών σας.

Όλοι εσείς, μικροί και μεγάλοι, άνδρες και γυναίκες, αποδείξατε εμπράκτως τί σημαίνει «διακονία».

Ο Κύριος εδίδαξε: «Ὁ θέλων εἶναι μέγας, ἔσται πάντων διάκονος» (Μάρκ. 10,43). Εσείς βιώνετε τον λόγο αυτό, μιας και η Αγία Γραφή μάς προτρέπει: «Τῆς φιλοξενίας μὴ ἐπιλανθάνεσθε· διὰ ταύτης γάρ ἔλαθόν τινες ξενίσαντες ἀγγέλους» (Ἑβρ. 13,2).

Όπως ο Πατριάρχης Αβραάμ δέχθηκε τους τρεις ξένους στη δρυ Μαμβρή και ανεδείχθη Θεοδόχος, έτσι κι εσείς, διά της φιλοξενίας και της προθυμίας σας, ανεδείχθητε μάρτυρες της ζώσης Ορθοδόξου πίστεως.

Ο ιερός Χρυσόστομος μάς υπενθυμίζει, ότι «ὁ φιλοξενών, Χριστὸν φιλοξενεῖ», και όντως, στο πρόσωπο του Παναγιωτάτου, φιλοξενήσατε τον ίδιον τον Κύριον, τον οποίον Αυτός εκπροσωπεί και ομολογεί «ἐν τῷ μέσῳ τῆς γῆς».

Στην ιστορική αυτή στιγμή βάλατε ο καθένας το δικό του λιθαράκι, ώστε η τοπική μας Εκκλησία να σταθεί αντάξια της μεγάλης τιμής, γι’ αυτό και σήμερα, η ευγνωμοσύνη μας δεν είναι μόνον ανθρώπινη, αλλά και θεολογική.

Σας ευχαριστούμε και ταυτόχρονα δοξάζουμε τον Θεό, τον χορηγό παντός αγαθού, ο Οποίος σάς ενέπνευσε, να εργασθείτε με ομόνοια και αγάπη και να προξενήσετε ευμενή σχόλια από τους 70 επισκέπτες μας, από 10 διαφορετικές χώρες, οι οποίοι εντυπωσιάστηκαν από την ευγένεια, την προθυμία και την θυσιαστική, εθελοντική, ενθουσιώδη προσφορά σας.

Οι ευλογίες του Παναγιωτάτου ας γίνουν αφετηρία νέας πορείας. Η Ιερά Μητρόπολις καλείται να συνεχίσει, με ανανεωμένη δύναμη, το ποιμαντικό της έργο, την μέριμνα για τους νέους μας, την στήριξη των οικογενειών μας, την ενίσχυση των αδυνάτων, την προαγωγή του πολιτισμού και των παραδόσεών μας.

Η επίσκεψη του Πατριάρχου δεν είναι μόνον τιμή του παρελθόντος, αλλά ευθύνη και αποστολή του μέλλοντος.

Άφησα τελευταίους, εκείνους στους οποίους η Εκκλησία μας οφείλει πάντοτε ευγνωμοσύνη και εγκάρδια ευχαριστία, τους ιδιοκτήτες του εστιατορίου Cypern, κ. Νικόλαο Αθανασίου και κ. Αθανάσιο/Σάκη Καλπάκα, οι οποίοι πάντοτε, όπως και σήμερα, με πολλή προθυμία αφιλοκερδώς προσφέρουν, ώστε να γευόμαστε τις εξαίρετες γεύσεις και την ποιότητα, δια των οποίων έχουν δικαίως κερδίσει μια υψηλή θέση στις γευστικές προτιμήσεις της Σουηδικής κοινωνίας.

Είθε, λοιπόν, ο Θεός της αγάπης να ευλογεί και να στερεώνει όλους σας, παρόντες και δι’ ευλόγους αιτίες απόντες, τις οικογένειές σας, τους οικείους και συγγενείς σας και να ανταποδίδει στον καθένα ξεχωριστά τον κόπο και την προσφορά, χαρίζοντας υγεία και κάθε ευλογία και προκοπή! Σας ευχαριστώ.”

On the evening of Monday, September 22, 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia hosted a thank-you dinner in the Fellowship Hall of the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm, in honor of the volunteers who contributed to the flawless organization of the recent Patriarchal Visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

More than fifty volunteers attended the dinner, while over twenty others, due to personal reasons and family obligations, were unable to be present.

After expressing his gratitude to those in attendance, as well as to those absent for valid reasons, Metropolitan Cleopas delivered the following address:

“Very Reverend Fr. Bartholomew,
Reverend Fr. George,
Beloved Volunteers and co-workers in the ministry of our local Church,

With emotion and profound gratitude I welcome you and pay the due honor to all of you, the distinguished and blessed volunteers, who supported with selflessness and dedication the historic Visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Stockholm and Uppsala, from August 21 to 25, 2025.

The arrival and paternal presence of His All-Holiness among us was a heaven-sent blessing and an invaluable gift, for through it our unity with the Mother Church of Constantinople was confirmed.

If this historic event was crowned with order, exemplary organization, and success, it is thanks to the willingness and tireless efforts of your hearts.

All of you—young and old, men and women—proved in practice what ‘service’ truly means.

The Lord taught: ‘Whoever wants to be great must be the servant of all’ (Mark 10:43). You live out this teaching, just as Holy Scripture exhorts us: ‘Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares’ (Hebrews 13:2).

Just as Patriarch Abraham welcomed the three strangers at the Oak of Mamre and became the recipient of God, so you, through your hospitality and readiness, became witnesses of the living Orthodox faith.

Saint John Chrysostom reminds us that ‘whoever offers hospitality, offers it to Christ’. Indeed, in the person of His All-Holiness, you hosted the Lord Himself, whom he represents and confesses ‘in the midst of the earth’.

In this historic moment each of you placed your own stone, enabling our local Church to rise to the height of the great honor bestowed upon it. For this reason, today our gratitude is not only human but also theological.

We thank you, and at the same time we glorify God, the giver of all good things, who inspired you to work with unity and love, and to elicit favorable comments from our 70 visitors from 10 different countries, who were impressed by your kindness, eagerness, and sacrificial, enthusiastic volunteer service.

May the blessings of His All-Holiness be the beginning of a new course. The Holy Metropolis is called to continue, with renewed strength, its pastoral mission: caring for our youth, supporting our families, strengthening the weak, and promoting our culture and traditions.

The Patriarch’s visit is not only an honor of the past but also a responsibility and mission for the future.

Lastly, I wish to thank those to whom our Church always owes gratitude: the owners of the restaurant ‘Cypern,’ Mr. Nikolaos Athanasiou and Mr. Athanasios/Sakis Kalpakas, who always, as today, offer generously and with much willingness, allowing us to enjoy the exceptional flavors and quality that have rightfully earned them a high place in the culinary preferences of Swedish society.

May the God of love bless and strengthen all of you—those present and those absent for valid reasons—together with your families, loved ones, and relatives, and may He repay each of you for your effort and offering, granting you health, every blessing, and prosperity! Thank you.”

Το μεσημέρι της Τετάρτης, 17^ης Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας, συνοδευόμενος από τον Πανοσιολ. Αρχιμανδρίτη κ. Βαρθολομαίο Ιατρίδη, μετέσχε των εργασιών του Χριστιανικού Συμβουλίου Εκκλησιών της Σουηδίας, που πραγματοποιήθηκε στις εγκαταστάσεις του, στην Στοκχόλμη.

Ένα από τα κύρια θέματα της συνεδριάσεως ήταν τα συμπεράσματα από την εορτασθείσα «Οικουμενική Εβδομάδα», με θέμα: “Ώρα για την Ειρήνη του Θεού”, τον περασμένο Αύγουστο, αποκορύφωμα των οποίων ήταν η τιμητική πρόσκληση και συμμετοχή της Α. Θ. Παναγιότητος, του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ. κ. Βαρθολομαίου, ο Οποίος ήταν και κύριος ομιλητής των σπουδαιοτέρων εκδηλώσεων.

Οι εν λόγω εκδηλώσεις πραγματοποιήθηκαν ακριβώς 100 χρόνια μετά την Διεθνή Χριστιανική Διάσκεψη, που διοργάνωσε στην Στοκχόλμη, το 1925, με θέμα «Ζωή και Δράσις», ο βραβευθείς, το 1930, με Νόμπελ Ειρήνης, Λουθηρανός Αρχιεπίσκοπος Nathan Söderblom, παρουσία τότε του Πατριάρχου Αλεξανδρείας Φωτίου Περόγλου και του Μητροπολίτου Θυατείρων και Μεγάλης Βρεταννίας Γερμανού Στρηνόπουλου, Εκπροσώπου του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου.

Ο Σεβασμιώτατος απηύθυνε ευχαριστήριο χαιρετισμό προς τον παριστάμενο Αρχιεπίσκοπο της Λουθηρανικής Εκκλησίας, Σεβ. κ. Martin Modéus, τον οποίο συνεχάρη, όπως και τους αξίους συνεργάτες του, μεταξύ των οποίων την Γενική Γραμματέα του Χριστιανικού Συμβουλίου Δρ. Sofia Camnerin και τους Αιδεσιμ. κ.κ. Προσέφερε, επίσης, την τελευταία μελέτη του, αφιερωμένη στον πρώτο προκάτοχό του, μακαριστό Μητροπολίτη κυρό Πολύευκτο (Φινφίνη), υπό τον τίτλο, «Πολύευκτος Φινφίνης, Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας καί πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας, 1969-1974», αμφότερα εκδόσεις και προσφορά της Αποστολικής Διακονίας της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος και του Γενικού Διευθυντού της, Πανιερωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Φαναρίου κ. Αγαθαγγέλου.

Στην συνέχεια, οι συμμετέχοντες στις εργασίες του Χριστιανικού Συμβουλίου, χωρίστηκαν σε ομάδες και κλήθηκαν, εντός δέκα πέντε λεπτών της ώρας, να συνεργαστούν και να σχολιάσουν, κατά πόσο η «Οικουμενική Εβδομάδα» έδρασε καταλυτικά στις ψυχές των συμμετεχόντων σε αυτήν και των μελών των Εκκλησιών που εκπροσώπησαν.

Μετά το πέρας της εν λόγω συνεργασίας, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης κ. Κλεόπας έλαβε τον λόγο και τόνισε την σημασία, αρχικώς, της εσωτερικής ειρήνης, που είναι δώρο Θεού, και εν συνεχεία της καλλιέργειας αυτής μέσα από τον πνευματικό αγώνα και την μετοχή των πιστών στην Μυστηριακή ζωή της Εκκλησίας, επεσήμανε δε την σημασία του εορτασμού αυτής της εβδομάδος, ως αφορμής συσπειρώσεως, αλληλεγγύης και συνεργασίας μεταξύ των Χριστιανικών Εκκλησιών και των μελών τους.

Τέλος, συμφώνησε με τους προλαλήσαντες, περί της συγγραφής και εκδόσεως  ενός Αφιερωματικού Τόμου στην «Οικουμενική Εβδομάδα», που δεν θα περιλαμβάνει μόνον φωτογραφικό υλικό, αλλά και τις εισηγήσεις και εκδηλώσεις που πραγματοποιήθηκαν, καθώς και ονοματικό κατάλογο των συμμετασχόντων και εργασαμένων για την διοργάνωση και παρουσίαση των εκδηλώσεων, ώστε να βιωθούν από όλους, ιδιαίτερα τους νέους και τις ερχόμενες γενιές, οι σπουδαίες χριστιανικές αρετές της ειρήνης, της συνύπαρξης και της αλληλεγγύης.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, accompanied by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis, participated in the sessions of the Christian Council of Churches in Sweden, held at its headquarters in Stockholm.

One of the main items on the agenda was the review of the conclusions from the recently celebrated “Ecumenical Week,” held in August under the theme “A Time for the Peace of God.” The highlight of that week was the presence and keynote address of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who had been invited as the principal guest and speaker at the major events.

These celebrations took place exactly 100 years after the International Christian Conference on “Life and Work,” organized in Stockholm, in 1925, by Lutheran Archbishop Nathan Söderblom, who was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1930.

That historic gathering was attended by Patriarch Photios Peroglou of Alexandria and Metropolitan Germanos Strenopoulos of Thyateira and Great Britain, who represented the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Metropolitan Cleopas addressed a word of thanks to the Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Sweden, His Eminence Martin Modéus, whom he congratulated together with his worthy colleagues, including Dr. Sofia Camnerin, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Churches, and the Very Reverends Peter Lindvall, Jonas Thorängen, and Fredrik Lidé.

As a token of gratitude for the excellent cooperation and support offered by the Lutheran Church of Sweden and the Christian Council of Churches, during the official reception and hospitality of His All-Holiness and His distinguished Entourage, Metropolitan Cleopas presented flowers and an icon of Saint George. The gift served as a memento of the recent Thyranoixia Service at the Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm, which took place on Sunday, August 24, 2025, by His All-Holiness, the Spiritual Leader of Orthodoxy.

He also offered his most recent study, dedicated to his first predecessor, the late Metropolitan Polyefktos (Finfinis), titled “Polyefktos Finfinis, Metropolitan of Sweden and All Scandinavia, 1969–1974.”

Both gifts were publications of the “Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece,” presented through the generosity of its Director General, His Excellency Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion.

Following this, participants in the Council’s sessions were divided into groups and given fifteen minutes to collaborate and reflect on how the “Ecumenical Week” had impacted the hearts of those who took part, as well as the Churches they represented.

After the group discussions, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas took the floor, underlining first the importance of inner peace as a divine gift, and then the need to cultivate it through spiritual struggle and participation in the sacramental life of the Church.

He highlighted the significance of celebrating such a week as a means of fostering unity, solidarity, and collaboration among Christian Churches and their faithful.

Finally, he endorsed the proposal of the previous speakers to prepare and publish a commemorative volume on the “Ecumenical Week.”

This edition will not only include photographs but also the keynote addresses, events, and a list of participants and contributors, so that the profound Christian values of peace, coexistence, and solidarity may be shared, especially with the younger generations, and the generations to come.

Το απόγευμα της Πέμπτης, 18 Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας ευλόγησε την έναρξη των συναντήσεων των Κατηχουμένων της Ι. Μητροπόλεως Σουηδίας, στις εγκαταστάσεις του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης (Birger Jarlsgatan 92, 11420 Stockholm).

Ο Σεβασμιώτατος θα είναι και πάλι εισηγητής, στην Αγγλική γλώσσα, καθώς, μεταξύ των συμμετεχόντων, υπάρχουν αρκετοί Κατηχούμενοι της Ορθοδόξου πίστεως, οι οποίοι προέρχονται από διαφορετικές χώρες.

Το θέμα της πρώτης εισηγήσεως ήταν: «Η τρέλα στου Σταυρού», περί της οποίας ο Ποιμενάρχης παρουσίασε πλειάδα παραδειγμάτων εξ Αγίων της Εκκλησίας, αναφερομένων στου Μυστήριο του Σταυρού, καταλήγοντας στον Άγιο Νεκτάριο Πενταπόλεως, ο οποίος έλεγε χαρακτηριστικά: «Σταυρός, ἡ μερίς τοῦ βίου μου»!

Ακολούθησαν ερωτήσεις επί της εισηγήσεως και δόθηκαν σαφείς απαντήσεις.

Να σημειωθεί, ότι ο συνολικός αριθμός των συμμετασχόντων, τόσο με φυσική παρουσία, όσο και διαδικτυακά, υπερέβη τους σαράντα, δηλαδή διπλάσιος από πέρυσι.

Στο τέλος της συναντήσεως, προσεφέρθη στην αίθουσα του Καθεδρικού Ναού κέρασμα προς τιμήν των νέων, οι οποίοι διακονούν την τοπική μας Εκκλησία σε διαφόρους τομείς.

Η επομένη συνάντησις θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Πέμπτη, 2 Οκτωβρίου 2025, στις 6 μ.μ, και πάλι στις εγκαταστάσεις του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης.

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 18th, 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia blessed the beginning of the Catechumens’ meetings of the Holy Metropolis of Sweden, held at the facilities of St. George Cathedral of Stockholm (Birger Jarlsgatan 92, 11420 Stockholm).

His Eminence once again served as the keynote speaker, delivering his talk in English, as among the participants there were many Catechumens of the Orthodox faith coming from different countries.

The theme of the first lecture was: “The Foolishness of the Cross”. The Metropolitan presented a wealth of examples from the lives of Saints of the Church who spoke of the Mystery of the Cross, concluding with Saint Nectarios of Pentapolis, who characteristically declared: “The Cross is my portion in life.”

The lecture was followed by questions, which were answered clearly and thoroughly.

It should be noted that the total number of participants, both in person and online, exceeded forty—twice as many as last year.

At the end of the meeting, refreshments were offered in the Cathedral Fellowship Hall, in honor of the young people, who serve our local Church in various capacities.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., once again at the facilities of the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm.

Το πρωΐ του Σαββάτου, 20 Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας, συνοδευόμενος από τον Πανοσιολ. Αρχιμανδρίτη κ. Βαρθολομαίο Ιατρίδη, Εφημέριο του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης, ανταποκρινόμενος δε στην ευγενική και τιμητική πρόσκληση του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Ελληνικού Σχολείου Στοκχόλμης, ετέλεσε την ακολουθία του Αγιασμού, ευλογώντας την έναρξη των μαθημάτων και του σχολικού έτους 2025-2026.

Ο Ποιμενάρχης, απευθυνόμενος στα τριακόσια παιδιά, τα προέτρεψε, να χαίρονται που φοιτούν σε Ελληνικό σχολείο.

Τους υπενθύμισε, ότι η Ελληνική γλώσσα είναι θησαυρός και πως, μέσα από αυτήν, μιλά ο πολιτισμός μας, οι πρόγονοί μας και η Εκκλησία μας.

Τα προσκάλεσε, μαζί με τα μαθήματά τους, να καλλιεργούν την αρετή, την αγάπη και την συνεργασία μεταξύ τους, καθώς και την προσευχή, κάνοντας ιδιαίτερη μνεία στην ομιλία του, στον Άγιο Νεκτάριο Πενταπόλεως, τον θαυματουργό.

Απευθυνόμενος στην συνέχεια προς τους δεκαπέντε δασκάλους του Σχολείου, τόνισε, ότι ο κόπος τους είναι διπλά πολύτιμος, καθώς δεν διδάσκουν μόνον γνώσεις, αλλά κρατούν ζωντανή την Ελληνική φλόγα και βοηθούν τα παιδιά, να αισθάνονται κοντά στην πατρίδα και την Εκκλησία.

Τέλος, ευχαριστώντας τον Πρόεδρο του Σχολείου, Ελλογιμ. κ. Δημήτριο Σιώτη, και τα Μέλη του Διοικητικού του Συμβουλίου, προσέφερε ως ευλογία και ενθύμιο την τελευταία του μελέτη με τίτλο, «Πολύευκτος Φινφίνης, Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας, 1969-1974», που εξεδόθη από την Αποστολική Διακονία της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος και παρουσιάστηκε ενώπιον της Α. Θ. Παναγιότητος, του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου, στις 23 Αυγούστου 2025.

Στα παιδιά και τους γονείς, διένειμε ως ευλογία το ενθύμιο των τελεσθέντων Θυρανοιξίων, με την εικόνα του Αγίου Γεωργίου του Τροπαιοφόρου, που επίσης ευγενώς προσέφερε στην Ι. Μητρόπολη Σουηδίας, ο Γενικός Διευθυντής του εξονομασθέντος Εκκλησιαστικού Οργανισμού, Πανιερώτατος Μητροπολίτης Φαναρίου κ. Αγαθάγγελος.

Ακολούθησε καφές και κεράσματα, στην καφετέρια του Σχολείου, τα οποία προσέφερε ευγενώς ο κ. Γεώργιος Πρόκος, Μέλος του ως άνω Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου.
